Summer Updates

Summertime...you are lovely and tiring and warm. Yesterday was the first official day of summer, but it's been warm and the kids have been out of school for a month now, so it feels familiar at this point. Today the air is humid and the sky looks like it might host one of those wonderful summer thunderstorms. I took the 3 boys for a walk in the woods this morning and it was perfect: that earthy woods smell was strong and we all breathed it all in. And then we got eaten by mosquitoes. The sun has been going down late and up early with the summer solstice and so the kids seem to go to bed later and wake up too early. That, on top of their relentless energy , million demands (not that every demand is always met), and a baby that is up at night nursing, is why my blog has been quiet. Writing is hard right now, as is showering, exercising, and sometimes eating. I do tend to prioritize eating though. Basically any alone time I have is very limited and I'm stretched thin. What's Up

Busy, lovely November! I love fall, even late fall when the tress are bare and the temperature drops. We have had lots going on. I had a dear friend come visit- always wonderful! We have had some beautiful family walks in the woods- my favorite thing to do. There's some serious bed head around here: I've been working out consistently the past few months, and I'm feeling pretty good! My goal is 4 times a week- sometimes I don't make that goal, but usually I do. I'm feeling stronger and healthier. Now if I could just stop eating cookies, all would be well! I found this gem at the dump. The living room is really coming together, with the curtains and the gray paint. I'll post a picture of the whole room soon! By the way, this chair was totally a God-thing. I mean, who throws out stuff like this?? I prayed God would provide a new chair or loveseat, and there it was. Family Time- yesterday 2 of my sisters-in-law ...

I just love this photo. Love it, love it, love it. My sister-in-law Jess took it last autumn when she and her daughter Lily and my mother-in-law came to visit us in Lexington. Most of the time in pictures, people (including me) want to look their best- put on makeup, cute clothes, creative poses, smiles and giggles. Of course. We want to capture the best of us. But this photo, I love. I am wearing NO makeup. I had let my hair air-dry and hadn't touched it that day. I was wearing a baggy, comfy long sleeve t-shirt to cover up post-partum pooch. We just went out on a walk down the lane, and we took a casual picture, and it's my favorite family photo of us yet. I love that Graham is giving us that typical 'no-i-won't-smile' face and that he's wearing a ball shirt. I love Patrick's newborn fist and face and pumpkin hat. I love Behn in flannel. I love that gorgeous, natural background of the fields and mountains. I love that I remember this as a crisp au...

No Important Title

Can't think of a good title for these two pics. It's just bits of life. What can you do with an old broken Volvo? Let your 19-month old play in it and pretend he's driving. And these. They just brighten my day. I grew some of them and some I found in the field behind our house. Wildflowers are positively my favorite. Here's to a restful weekend. We need it!
