Weekend Away

4th of July weekend was wonderful! We spent 4 days in Delaware doing all the summer things: playing at the park, grilling out, visiting family, swimming, fireworks, and watching lots of little cousins playing together. Behn and I got to sleep in a couple of times and as always, it's great having extra eyes and hands on the kids. We even got to see the Donut Man one night! (Who's the Donut Man? See popular 90's Christian VHS tapes at your local church library). He played a sweet little show at Behn's childhood campground and we took all the littles. It was a pretty great trip.

I want to say thank you to our family for making the weekend so fun! Glad for the boys to have such sweet memories. 

Now home and back to routine and the ups and downs. We enjoyed dinner at my parents' house last night. I'm glad they are close by :) Mom and I are going flea marketing tomorrow in attempt to repurpose some stuff and spruce up the guest bathroom/bedroom. I'll document the journey and post soon!

Ok, few dear readers, I haven't heard from you much lately. Which I get...because sometimes this blog is kind of BOOOORRRRING! Off the Bookshelf

I haven't done one of these in a while, but I have been reading. Here is what is on my bookshelf: The Mission of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson I first got to know Clarkson when I read the book Desperate, which she co-authored with Sarah Mae. I friend from church had raved about Clarkson, and so lent me this book when I showed interest in more of her writing. I'm only a few chapters in, but loving it so far. And, frankly, I really need to be reading these sort of books right now, in the throes of "Stop it!" "Don't kick your brother!" "Obey me RIGHT NOW" and the never ending dishes...the early mornings...the snotty noses...the incessant whining...the poopy diapers...in all the ordinary and mundane that is motherhood. To be reminded this is a mission- gives it so much more significance. Patrick Wilford is Here!

Both of my boys (what, I have 2 boys?) are napping right now, so it's time to update this blog with Patrick's birth story before I forget the details. Words to describe Patrick's birth: terrifying. fast. wonderful. merciful. unforgettable. We'll start with Friday, September 7th. I had my 39 week OB appointment and was 2 cm dilated and 75% effaced. Promising, but no guarantee I'd go into labor too soon. However, I did go ahead and schedule an elective induction for the following Tuesday (the 11th) because I liked the idea of knowing I'd make it to the hospital, plus my favorite doctor was on call that day, plus Behn had that whole week off of work so I knew he'd be there for everything.
