Christmas Cheer

Good weekend so far! Emily (my sister) and Seth (Behn's brother), who are married (for any readers who don't know about that), moved from cold Fort Drum, NY to Greensboro, NC this weekend!! Woohoo! They are only 3 hours from us now- this is awesome! Behn's parents and Em & Seth all met here on Friday night and then yesterday Behn, his Dad, and Em and Seth made it to NC to move them in. (Is this confusing?? Seems a little confusing). Anyway, Mom T stayed with me to help/play with Graham and we've had a nice quiet time together. Just look at my baby all dressed for church and standing on his own:

I decorated the house for Christmas a couple of weeks ago. I didn't do as much this year. Little fingers can reach many places, and also I felt like it can be a lot to clean up after the holidays, so I kept it a little simpler. It still has a nice touch though. Our little tree (out of reach):

Got these stockings on clearance last year after Christmas. Love the country look of them. And also Behn's nutcracker collection of course:

Other than a wreath on the front door and an advent ring/candles on the kitchen table, that's pretty much it! There's been a lot of Christmas music in the house, and a cinnamon or mistletoe candle burning. Tis the season!

Ok, few dear readers, I haven't heard from you much lately. Which I get...because sometimes this blog is kind of BOOOORRRRING! Patrick Wilford is Here!

Both of my boys (what, I have 2 boys?) are napping right now, so it's time to update this blog with Patrick's birth story before I forget the details. Words to describe Patrick's birth: terrifying. fast. wonderful. merciful. unforgettable. We'll start with Friday, September 7th. I had my 39 week OB appointment and was 2 cm dilated and 75% effaced. Promising, but no guarantee I'd go into labor too soon. However, I did go ahead and schedule an elective induction for the following Tuesday (the 11th) because I liked the idea of knowing I'd make it to the hospital, plus my favorite doctor was on call that day, plus Behn had that whole week off of work so I knew he'd be there for everything. So it just made sense, even though I did want to try to have another natural childbirth. On Saturday (the 8th), I was excited because I knew there was a coldfront coming in. Off the Bookshelf

I haven't done one of these in a while, but I have been reading. Here is what is on my bookshelf: The Mission of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson I first got to know Clarkson when I read the book Desperate, which she co-authored with Sarah Mae. I friend from church had raved about Clarkson, and so lent me this book when I showed interest in more of her writing. I'm only a few chapters in, but loving it so far. And, frankly, I really need to be reading these sort of books right now, in the throes of "Stop it!" "Don't kick your brother!" "Obey me RIGHT NOW" and the never ending dishes...the early mornings...the snotty noses...the incessant whining...the poopy diapers...in all the ordinary and mundane that is motherhood. To be reminded this is a mission- gives it so much more significance.
