Williamsburg Recap- Our First Family Getaway!

It's Monday morning and we're back from our weekend getaway. My floors need to be swept and mopped, I should run a load of laundry, and there's always other stuff to do...but first I wanted to quickly recap our weekend away- which was a celebration of our upcoming 3-year anniversary! I'll post pictures soon.

Friday we got up at a decent time and out on the road by 9. We got to Williamsburg around 1 and since we couldn't check in to our resort until 4, we walked around historic Williamsburg for a few hours. Behn and I had both been there as kids, but never together, so it was fun walking around and enjoying the scenery together. Around 3:30 we checked into King's Creek Plantation. I bought this getaway package for a great price at an auction last fall. We loved the townhouse and the pool was right in our backyard. We all took a swim (Graham loved that) and then ran out to get a pizza for dinner.

Saturday was hot! We drove over to Jamestown and went through the museum and then walked around the outdoor exhibits. Graham was pretty fussy- he missed his nap and plus it was really hot. He slept in the car on the way back to the resort and later we all hopped back in the pool for a while. We went out to dinner and then walked around Williamsburg again and got ice cream.

Sunday (Father's Day!) we had to check out by 10 (doesn't that seem a little early?). So the morning was all about that and then we drove out to Yorktown. I think I might have actually liked Yorktown best! It's right on the water (James River) and had a really cute historic downtown as well. Yorktown is where the British finally surrendered at the end of the Revolutionary War. While we were there, we were admiring the ships at dock and I pointed out that one of them had the Swedish flag on it. We walked up to it and discovered it was the Kalmar Nyckel- the Tall Ship of Delaware! There were actually tickets available to go for a sail on it later in the afternoon, but we decided that would be too much and we'd get home kind of late if we did that...but wouldn't that have been a cool thing to do? Anyway, we headed out after a while, and stopped at the outlets for a little bit before heading home.

Overall, it was a perfect getaway- just what we needed. Graham did great, but it really is harder to travel with a kid. Still, it was totally worth it and we made some good family memories.

Oh, and Father's Day wasn't forgotton- Graham got Daddy some tickets to a baseball game in Roanoke: Salem Red Socks (local team) vs. Wilmington Blue Rocks. We're going July 8th and you better believe we'll be rooting for our Blue Rocks :)
