Thankful

Things haven't been easy lately. God never said life would be easy though. I'm often exhausted from watching the babies all day and then having to go do respite care. Graham is in a funk where's he's extremely attached to me, which makes it hard to get stuff done around the house or to put him down for a nap, and makes it really hard for Behn when he has to watch him so I can go work or go to the grocery store. My attitude can quickly become sour and frustrated, because I am weak and sinful.

Praise the Lord for grace on days when babies are fussy, money is tight, and it's 97 degrees outside.


Today I am thankful:


  • that my family is healthy

  • that Graham is learning to sit up- and that he's a healthy, sweet little boy

  • for God's provision for our needs. Yes, it's a struggle at times, but we are never hungry and our bills are paid.

  • that we live in a beautiful and spacious rental- more than we need

  • that I have clean water to drink

  • for a friend suggesting we have a picnic with our boys on Friday and for Hannah's company this week since she's not starting her job until Monday (I'm still struggling a bit with SAHM loneliness)

  • that when I walked outside this morning, I saw that one of my sunflowers had bloomed

  • for a hard-working and loving husband

  • for Behn's birthday coming up

  • for our anniversary trip to Williamsburg coming up next weekend

There's so much more that I am thankful for...too much to list.

Ok, few dear readers, I haven't heard from you much lately. Which I get...because sometimes this blog is kind of BOOOORRRRING! Off the Bookshelf

I haven't done one of these in a while, but I have been reading. Here is what is on my bookshelf: The Mission of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson I first got to know Clarkson when I read the book Desperate, which she co-authored with Sarah Mae. I friend from church had raved about Clarkson, and so lent me this book when I showed interest in more of her writing. I'm only a few chapters in, but loving it so far. And, frankly, I really need to be reading these sort of books right now, in the throes of "Stop it!" "Don't kick your brother!" "Obey me RIGHT NOW" and the never ending dishes...the early mornings...the snotty noses...the incessant whining...the poopy diapers...in all the ordinary and mundane that is motherhood. To be reminded this is a mission- gives it so much more significance. Patrick Wilford is Here!

Both of my boys (what, I have 2 boys?) are napping right now, so it's time to update this blog with Patrick's birth story before I forget the details. Words to describe Patrick's birth: terrifying. fast. wonderful. merciful. unforgettable. We'll start with Friday, September 7th. I had my 39 week OB appointment and was 2 cm dilated and 75% effaced. Promising, but no guarantee I'd go into labor too soon. However, I did go ahead and schedule an elective induction for the following Tuesday (the 11th) because I liked the idea of knowing I'd make it to the hospital, plus my favorite doctor was on call that day, plus Behn had that whole week off of work so I knew he'd be there for everything. So it just made sense, even though I did want to try to have another natural childbirth. On Saturday (the 8th), I was excited because I knew there was a coldfront coming in.
