Halfway to Baby

Well, I'm 20 weeks pregnant! I should accompany this statement with a picture, but I don't like the ones Behn took yesterday, so we'll have to try again later today. I look about the same (but a little bigger) as I did when I was preggo with Graham. I feel bigger though. My sciatica nerve in the bottom of my back is giving me grief at the end of everyday. This didn't happen til waaay later on in my 1st pregnancy. Fortunately, the baby isn't big enough yet to shove my innards into my ribcage. That was a terrible part about being pregnant last time and I'm sure it'll happen soon. I'm enjoying feeling the baby kick and move. I'm enjoying 'looking' pregnant. I'm enjoying eating too much food. Watching Graham and Frankie is becoming really, really difficult. I know that these are 'first world problems.' I don't have to carry my water from a well, or boil beans for hours on end to make dinner, or go potty in an outhouse. I have

Does My Garden Grow?

Last year I posted the progress of my very first garden. I won't do that in so much detail again this year, but here's an update: Today I finally went outside and planted some of the seedlings I've grown. The past few weeks I've half-heartedly had things growing in trays. If the weather was nice and I had a few minutes, I weeded my old garden spots. I've had much less enthusiasm this year, for a number of reasons. The novelty of the first garden has worn off; I'm tired and pregnant; Graham and Frankie can't be tied to a baby bouncer to sit and quietly watch me tend to the garden anymore. In fact, I'm so tired from chasing them all day, the idea of a garden seems a little overwhelming. But the real reason I haven't wanted to garden is because I'm tired of being a nomad and wondering if I'm planting all this for a stranger . We never seem to know if/when we're moving. Will Behn get a new job? If not, should we move to a smaller, cheaper r

A Saturday to Treasure

Every once in a while we have a special day as a family. You can't really plan ahead on these things...especially with an unpredictable toddler and a mood-swinging pregnant Megan. Things just fall into place: the weather, our moods, our activities. Days like these are to be treasured :) Saturday was like that. Beautiful, full of sweet moments as a family. First we went to the local Scots/Irish Festival. Gotta get our groove on with those bagpipes from time to time. Saw lots of kilts, men throwing rocks, bagpipes, and our favorite: a sheep dog trial demonstration.  Graham really enjoyed watching the sheep and the dog. The dog owner/trainer was really cool and explained everything. Those sheep dogs are stinkin' smart. After we came home, had lunch and Graham and I napped (Behn did chores such as washing the car because he is awesome), we decided to go to Boxerwood Garden. If you come visit us, we must take you there. It's such a gift. It w

Even when...

...I'm dead on my feet ...and my tailbone hurts (from my pregnancy- and I'm only 19 weeks along!) ...and I've spent the whole day with Graham...13 hours... ...and I just want to get in my pj's and go to bed I never  get tired of rocking my boy before bedtime. He's very into me spending a few minutes cuddling him, playing with his hair, giving him little night-time kisses before he goes in his crib. We rock and love each other and everything is calm and quiet. And after a few minutes I put him in his crib and he squishes up his blanket just so and goes to sleep. (OR he fakes me out and lays down for a few minutes and then insists I come back in and rock him some more. And I don't mind.)

A Little Bit of Easter

It's been hard to have the time or energy to blog lately, and I blame it lovingly on my kids. One of them is growing inside me and that wears me out. And the other one, a certain little boy I know , has needed a little extra discipline these days. Also the other honorary child who's here most days (Frankie) just adds to the zoo that is our home. It's a busy place, ya'll. Let me give you an example of how a certain little boy I know has been testing the limits as of late. This is just one of many anecdotes I could share. We were at the park yesterday and I saw him licking a metal stake that holds together a retaining wall on the playground. I'm sure he was just curious as to how it would taste and feel on his tongue. Of course I told him, 'no mouth, that's yucky.' He literally looked me in the eye and started licking it again immediately. The rest of the time at the park was spent intercepting him from licking everything.  He was pushing limits big-ti

The Week in Review

Friday again! We had a busy but good week. Aaron was here last week and Hannah was here for a few days this week. It was really fun to have family visit and Graham enjoyed his uncle and aunt. I only had Frankie on Monday and today, so 3 days with just Graham was bliss. I was able to go to lots of appointments and run errands I cannot normally do with 2 toddlers. Plus, Graham got special time with me. Which is good, because this boy has been very  clingy to his mama lately. I think it's teething, but maybe he intuitively knows something is going to change soon? Speaking of change... I'm 4 months pregnant and this baby is growing! I feel her/him most days now. I love those kicks and don't take them for granted. In about a month we'll have the anatomy ultrasound and hopefully find out if this is a boy or a girl! We got to hear the heartbeat yesterday. Behn and Graham came with me to my appointment and we made a little trip of it- Chick-Fil-A for breakfast and a tr

Natural Bridge Zoo

A long-awaited for, over-due post. We've been busy with the ins and outs of life and enjoying lots of time outside lately. Two weekends ago, I had it in my head to take Graham to the local zoo. Behn agreed it would be a fun family outing, so we decided to go that Saturday. The weather was gorgeous all week. And that day when we woke up- it was pouring. I do not like to change my plans. I'm a little stubborn that way. I also don't like being stuck inside on the weekends. So, we decided to go ahead and go, pray for sun, and see what happened! This is what happened: It was not raining on the drive there. When we pulled up, it poured. As we toured the zoo, it poured. We all got wet. Towards the end, it was only drizzling and much better. And as we left...wait for it... the sun came out shining! Yep, it rained almost the whole time we were there and was lovely the rest of the day. But, we still had lots of fun! We had jackets and an umbrella and Graham d
