Rockbridge County

If anyone thinks Rockbridge County is boring and there's nothing to do here, they are quite mistaken. I love it here. Often, there are too many options to choose from. Sure, there's no shopping mall, Target, or Starbucks, but who needs all that?

Appalachian Trail, Goshen Pass, a million small trails (Chessie, Brushy Hills, etc), plenty of camping, Boxerwood Nature Center, Virginia Horse Center, Rockbridge Symphony Orchestra, Lime Kiln Outdoor Theater, Hulls Drive-In Theater, Bluegrass Festivals, VMI sports, W&L Sports, Historic District (lots of tours available), various art galleries, Rockbridge Vineyard, Farmer's Market, community festivals. Besides all that and more, VMI and W&L often have plays and musical performances going on.


I seriously wish I had the time to enjoy everything.




Today we went to Boxerwood. It's an amazing nature center/preserve boasting hundreds of species of native plants and creatures. There's a creative kids play area and so many artsy odds and ends. Behn and I really enjoyed it. And it's free. I carried Graham but hopefully by this time next year he'll be climbing around on tree stumps and rocks and toddling on the trails with us.

Patrick Wilford is Here!

Both of my boys (what, I have 2 boys?) are napping right now, so it's time to update this blog with Patrick's birth story before I forget the details. Words to describe Patrick's birth: terrifying. fast. wonderful. merciful. unforgettable. We'll start with Friday, September 7th. I had my 39 week OB appointment and was 2 cm dilated and 75% effaced. Promising, but no guarantee I'd go into labor too soon. However, I did go ahead and schedule an elective induction for the following Tuesday (the 11th) because I liked the idea of knowing I'd make it to the hospital, plus my favorite doctor was on call that day, plus Behn had that whole week off of work so I knew he'd be there for everything. How We Will Be Spending Our Summer

Yesterday we got our fingerprints done. Because obviously people don't just go get a casual set of fingerprints done, there must be a reason, right? The reason is that this summer our little family will be hosting a little girl from Ukraine! V is living in an orphanage, but this summer she will get to experience the love of a family as we welcome her to our home. She is so young, only 6, and it breaks our heart that kids grow up in orphanages. We are thrilled that God has called us to be part of her life. Behn and I have always felt the draw to care for orphans and kids from hard places. We actually went to Ukraine on an Orphan Care trip 5 years ago. (Read about it here ). When God led us to buy a house with a extra space, we knew we wanted to share it; we just did not know how we would. And now we do know- this summer it will be filled with a little girl.
