Top 6 Boston Moments

Behn and I just had the most amazing weekend in Boston. It was our first 'no kid' getaway since becoming parents, and it was also a late 5-year anniversary trip, since I was still nursing Patrick during our anniversary last June.

So, without further ado, here are my top 6 (I couldn't limit it to 5) moments in Boston!

1. Museum of Fine Arts- I loved going to the Museum of Fine Arts. I don't know how long it's been since I've been to an art museum, but it's been a while. We were trying to do things on this trip that are hard to do when you have little ones. The whole time we strolled around the museum, I thought, "I am so glad the kids aren't with us in here!" It have us time to really enjoy the art. It was a drizzly, dark day outside; a perfect day to be in a museum...except that it was so warm and dark and quiet in there, we felt like we could have taken a nap.

2. Harvard and Harvard Square- on Sunday after church we headed to Harvard Square. We were really going to the area to walk around Harvard, but it was OktoberFest in the square, and it was packed! There was a bunch of fun live music, hundreds of street vendors, fun shops, and lots of people. When the crowd got to be too much, we walked around Harvard Campus. It was a perfect autumn day, and it was really cool to walk around such a stately academic campus.

3. Beantown Pub- Nothing like hot food when you are hungry! We stumbled in here in late afternoon on the first day we got to Boston. We'd been up sooooo early, traveled all morning, taken quick cat naps, and then ventured  into the city. We were starving.

4. Christ the King Presbyterian Church- Sunday morning we decided to prioritize going to worship. We looked up the nearest Presbyterian Church and took the bus there. It was so wonderful! I love worshiping our God with others, from all over. Its good to know that God is everywhere, and people love Him and serve Him everywhere. It was also interesting and encouraging to go to a city church with believers from all walks of life, all colors, all ages.

5. Freedom Trail and downtown Boston- the first day we got to Boston, we didn't end up really 'touring' until late afternoon. After we grabbed some grub at Beantown Pub, we started walking the Freedom Trail, which hits up the major historic spots throughout the city. It's not really a 'trail' so much as a walking tour, but it was really fun to be downtown and see the highlights. The trail is like 2.5 miles long, but it started to get dark, so we only managed to finish 1/2 of it. Then we sat at Long Wharf and had some cheesecake and coffee.

6. Fenway Park- This is definitely the highlight of our trip! Really, it was a gift from God. After we went to the Art Museum, we decided to walk to Fenway, only a few blocks away. We were walking around Yawkey Way, taking pictures, when a guy in a hoodie walked up to us and asked if we wanted tickets. Behn said, "sure," expecting to then hear that the guy would sell us them for $200 or something crazy like that (in which we would have said, 'no'). Instead, the man handed us 2 tickets from the pile of tickets in his hand, and quickly walked away. Behn and I were a bit dumbfounded, but suspicious that this was some kind of a joke. We took them to the security guards at the gate and asked them about the tickets. They said they were pretty sure the tickets were legitimate, and then the hoodie guy walked right past them into Fenway. "That's the guy who gave the tickets to us!" Behn told them. "Oh, he's one of the players. Miller, injured pitcher. Yeah, those tickets are good."

Whoa. Behn and I were thrilled! We were 'walking on air' and ran off to get some Red Socks gear at a Marshall's down the street. We grabbed some pizza and walked around the outside of Fenway until we could get inside and then we enjoyed the game! Of course, they lost...but we left in the 8th inning anyway to make sure we could catch one of the late subways back to Dorchester, where our B&B was. Seriously, though, what a fun experience! It made this whole trip!

Overall, what a great, much-needed trip away! I remember now why I love traveling so much. Thanks to Mom and Dad T, who took great care of the boys. We didn't worry about them one bit, or honestly, even miss them until the last day. But, it was good to come home and see them. Graham, not one to show much emotion, was happy but not overly-happy to see us. Patrick, though, planted himself in Daddy's arms and stayed there quite a while :)
