First Month of Summer

I know technically summer begins tomorrow, but I always feel like it starts at the end of May, really. So far this summer has been...sweet...relaxing...quiet...

Days are filled with me trying to figure out the balance of 'not doing enough' and 'doing too much' with the kids. So, some days we stay home and take walks in the neighborhood and some days we pack up and meet friends at a beach.  Some days we stay nearby and go to the library and some days we drive south and have a playdate.

These summer days are a bit monotonous, but that's life. Hang the laundry out. Figure out what's for dinner. Vacuum and sweep. Help Graham pick up his blocks. Wash dishes. Hold feverish babies during the night when I so need sleep (poor babies have both been sick all week). Other than a small trip to Virginia coming up, we have no adventures or plans. We're just hanging out and I'm learning to be ok with that.

These summer days are also sweet. Hearing Patrick babble 'mamamama.' Watching a zinnia bloom. Celebrating with Graham that he's potty-trained. Ice cream cones. Dreaming of plans for the yard and house when we have the money. Sitting on the deck with Behn in the evenings. Tomatoes growing in the vine.

Right now, this is life and I want to cherish it.
