In Merry-Land

Well, we made it! We are now in Maryland, and here to stay for a while. I'm currently chilling in our new room at my parents' house while Behn is attempting to put Graham down for a nap in his room. Moving was quite the fiasco. Seriously...packing our entire house up mostly by myself (I did have some help from friends at times) with 2 small boys was hard! Then Behn brought myself, Graham, and Patrick to MD and dropped us off and the next day, Monday, he and my dad and brother all headed back to VA in the middle of a hurricane!  I don't know how they did it. Then they got there and realized the truck was a bit too small. That stunk, especially since Behn and I majorly purged and got rid of stuff. Why do we have so much stuff???? The guys finally headed back, still during the hurricane, and of course the truck blew a tire...and then the 4Runner's battery died...BUT they did make it back eventually! They got in late that night and we were so grateful they were safe and sound.

In light of the fact that I was unable to blog much in October, I'll try to make a mega-post that sums up the month of October, with pics and all. A "best of Ocotber 2012" type of thing.

Ok, few dear readers, I haven't heard from you much lately. Which I get...because sometimes this blog is kind of BOOOORRRRING! Off the Bookshelf

I haven't done one of these in a while, but I have been reading. Here is what is on my bookshelf: The Mission of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson I first got to know Clarkson when I read the book Desperate, which she co-authored with Sarah Mae. I friend from church had raved about Clarkson, and so lent me this book when I showed interest in more of her writing. I'm only a few chapters in, but loving it so far. And, frankly, I really need to be reading these sort of books right now, in the throes of "Stop it!" "Don't kick your brother!" "Obey me RIGHT NOW" and the never ending dishes...the early mornings...the snotty noses...the incessant whining...the poopy diapers...in all the ordinary and mundane that is motherhood. To be reminded this is a mission- gives it so much more significance. Patrick Wilford is Here!

Both of my boys (what, I have 2 boys?) are napping right now, so it's time to update this blog with Patrick's birth story before I forget the details. Words to describe Patrick's birth: terrifying. fast. wonderful. merciful. unforgettable. We'll start with Friday, September 7th. I had my 39 week OB appointment and was 2 cm dilated and 75% effaced. Promising, but no guarantee I'd go into labor too soon. However, I did go ahead and schedule an elective induction for the following Tuesday (the 11th) because I liked the idea of knowing I'd make it to the hospital, plus my favorite doctor was on call that day, plus Behn had that whole week off of work so I knew he'd be there for everything. So it just made sense, even though I did want to try to have another natural childbirth. On Saturday (the 8th), I was excited because I knew there was a coldfront coming in.
