Our First House

Well....IT'S OFFICIAL! We bought a house!!! We'll be paying for it for years to come :-)

Last year I wrote in my journal that I couldn't imagine us being able to buy a house for years to come. My, how God decided to surprise me.

This process didn't come without lots of hiccups though. I know home-buying is always complicated. There's so much paperwork and legal stuff and inspections. But, I think we got an extra dose of complicated a few times. Even our very experienced realtors (who we think did awesome and they are Christians which is cool) said, 'We've had a lot of firsts with you guys..." The last straw was yesterday when the seller didn't show up to settlement. The attorney and the seller's realtor couldn't get a hold of him at all. They finally heard from him this morning and he signed his share of the papers. If you ask Behn, he'll tell you that he felt a lot of abnormal anxiety through all of this, especially towards the end of the process.

You know what I think? I think there were some definite spiritual battles going on and that Satan was doing his best to make us anxious, discouraged, and to foil our plans. After all, buying a home is a huge blessing, and we want to make our home a truly holy place. We pray that our home is used for the Lord's purposes for years to come; a place to raise our kids in a happy environment, to grow our marriage, a place to share our resources, and a haven for those who need safety. We hope to bring home new children to this house. We want to make it beautiful- to plant flowers and vegetables. These things- all of them- make this world a better place and we give glory to God. Satan doesn't like that one bit. But, guess Who prevailed?

So, without further ado, here are some pictures that we took when we had the house inspected. I'll take more pictures once we're settled in, even though right now we can't find our camera charger (oops).

The House.
To be honest, I'm not a fan of the split foyer type, but they were wildly popular 20 years ago when the house was built and there were so many that fell in our price range.

The backyard. It's mostly hill. The play area there is filled with pebble gravel and I imagine there was a swing set there before. Graham has been enjoying playing with the rocks.

Living Room

Kitchen (no dishwasher for now). Brand new cabinets and appliances.

Dining area

The Family/Rec room downstairs. We so need this space! Glad to have it.

I won't bother posting pictures of the bedrooms. They are all painted white and have new carpet, like the rest of the house. The bedrooms are all quite small with small closets, but there are 4 bedrooms (3 upstairs and 1 downstairs). They'll suit us fine for some time. There are 2 full bathrooms and a laundry room as well.

We're excited! We started moving a few things yesterday afternoon and Behn is hauling a big load over right now. We're looking forward to being settled in.

Alright Lord, this house is Yours...help us to use it for You! Thank You for all Your goodness to us.

  1. Yay! Congrats! What a great step for your family. And I'm already jealous of the family/rec room downstairs. :)

    1. Thanks! I can't wait to use that space for all the stinkin' TOYS these kids seem to accumulate.

    1. I know, I was surprised we could get something this big! We did have to go above our original price range a little bit. Everything we looked at below our price range was really, really small or needed a lot of work.
