Our New Home

We finally settled on our new home! After 10.5 years away, we are back in Delaware. Our early married life took us from Delaware (where we both grew up), to beautiful Virginia (still my favorite), to Southern MD, to northern MD, and now back to Delaware. We are actually only moving 20 minutes away this time, from our MD rental over into DE. It's not the area of DE where we were raised, but it's perfect for us. We needed s p a c e, and you just cannot get that in northern New Castle county. Plus, we are plugged into our church and homeschool community and didn't want to make more changes. This is home, probably for a long time.

The house is move-in ready, but we have big dreams for the house and property. On over 3 acres, we have wishes for gardens and animals. The house itself is a bit small (well, compared to many American standards... But not compared to world standards). We have lots of improvements and renovations we hope to make over time... Although we also want to keep it simple. For now, we will all share 1 bathroom. We will keep furniture minimal and 6 people will fill 3 bedrooms. The house is cute, in my opinion, but it's not my layout "style"... However we bought it for the land and location. I want to really try to keep up this blog with our progress and minimalist lifestyle. So... Here are some "before" pics of the living room, foyer, and unfinished basement. I'll add more rooms in the next post!

(above) Living room. We are adding bookshelves and some seating, but avoiding a tv in this room. There's a small family room downstairs (which we want to expand) where we will set up the tv.

Still the living room...We are planning on putting our dining table here, next to the stairs.

View out the front window... all ours. You keep your walk-in closets and I'll keep my fields.

This was the dining area, but it's very small so we bought a beautiful cabinet off Craigslist, and we are 'expanding' the small kitchen by adding that.  It'll be where we keep dishes and also serve as a coffee bar, with shelving above.

Tiny, cute kitchen.

Ah, the split foyer. Said I'd never have one of those again. Jokes on me!

Downstairs part of foyer. Will take more downstairs pics later.

(left) Side field. (right) front view of house. See that chimney? Planning on adding a woodstove and making it functional again.

View from the road. As my brother said, "Little House on the Prairie."

I will add more pics of the outbuildings, 3 small bedrooms, family room and plans to expand into the unfinished space soon!
