Staunton

Behn and I just returned from a little getaway in Staunton, VA, which is about 40 miles north of Lexington. We decided to go up there to see our new favorite band, the Fitzmaurice Band play again (we saw them in Nov. at The Purple Fiddle). Then Behn suggested we make the trip a little getaway, since we could not even remember the last time we went somewhere that wasn't to see family. Up scenic route 11 we trekked, and had lunch at the wonderful Mrs. Rowe's Restaurant (thanks for the gift certificate, Mom and Dad Trader). Then, with an afternoon before us, we decided to check out the Museum of Pioneer Culture. The exhibits were quite impressive, and my history-loving husband and I enjoyed learning about the challenges and struggles our European ancestors must have faced when coming to the New World and the Shenandoah Valley. After that we shopped a little bit (taking advantage of some of the stores in Staunton that Lexington does not have...which is just about all of them), and then got ready to go to the show. The band was playing at a great little place called the Byers Street Bistro. Great atmosphere and food, and the band was amazing, of course!

This morning we got up early so we could grab some Dunkin Donuts (another wonderful commodity that Staunton has and Lexington doesn't) and hightailed it back to our town for church.

Staunton was great...but driving into Lexington again was even better. This town is so cute and small...and its our home. Behn and I both enjoyed getting away; we needed it and aren't taking it for granted that we can freely do these sort of things. But now we're going to enjoy the afternoon in Lexington watching hockey!

  2. Did you know that my sis lives in Lexington?!
My husband is hoping to compete in an Iron Man there in 2011. I'll have to make notes about that place you visited . Sounds great.

  3. I forgot to say, "thank you for your kind words and letting me know you are praying"! A while back you had left a comment and I never got back to you. It means So SO much. What a hard month this has been. Knowing that someone is thinking of me enough to pray is such an encouragement. Thank you for walking with me through this.
